This mornings match saw us travel up the road to play Sporting Khalsa, who are top of the league and needed a win to clinch the league title and avoid a play off vs Coventry United U15s.
We always knew it would be a competitive match against them and always look forward to a good game. And, sure enough it was very competitive!
We started strongly and was awarded with a free kick after Athena was tackled and brought down, Joella converted and gave us the lead with an excellent low free kick. They then got an equaliser.
We took the lead again late into the first half by winning the first header from a corner, then a Khalsa defender headed into her own goal.
Half-time Sporting Khalsa 1 Wordsley Panthers 2
Second half, and early in the referee awarded a dubious penalty and they duly equalised. Panther's continued to battle, with lots of effort by our players, Liz making some excellent saves, but we ran out of steam, with a couple of niggling injuries, the game slipped away to a 4-2 loss.
Well done Panthers, 3rd place still up for grabs on Thursday - we go again!
Congratulations to Khalsa for doing the double and winning the league and the cup.
POTM Milli - for a great performance and was tireless on the pitch today.

Matchday 25 - 14/05/2022 [DOUBLE HEADER DUE TO FIXTURE CONGESTION] Coventry United U16s (a) 4 - 0 Coventry United U16s (a) 4 - 1
Two games in one, a double header against Coventry United U16s. The common theme across both games was the relentlessness of Panthers in the quality of play, defensive solidarity and just sheer quality.
Doubles from Molly and Athena and quality finishes amongst them sealed a 4-0 victory in game 1, in which Faith made it through until 5 minutes before the close.
With the heat and disruption of sun breaks and having to shuffle the team around, after losing Chloe, as well as Faith, came a scrappy start to the second game.
But we put the game to bed with a wonder goal, Kareena's through pass, first time cross from Athena and bullet header from Milli.
The second half went our way then, a comfortable 4-1 victory. Another header from a corner and a first Panthers goal for Kareena, the obligatory Joella top corner free kick and another smart Athena finish.
So proud of the team in their relentless push to finish 3rd, currently sitting 4th with 3 matches left to play.
POTM Athena & Molly - Both played off each other and both gave the defence major problems.

High intensity, great goals, work rate was excellent in the heat as well… let’s keep this momentum…. As DV said before the game, a cup in the bag already and a great shot at finishing the league really strongly! Super proud of you all ☺️👏🏼
Sometimes you don't deserve to win football games.....but maybe don't deserve to lose either. That's why God invented draws...however, this one was far from a bore draw!
Panthers were a bit lacking today and seemed to be bereft of energy for long periods in the first half. Derby were, on the other hand, 'at it' and caused us all sorts of problems for long spells, winning all loose balls and deservedly going one up early in the first half with a fine finish. Panthers pulled one back with some nice work down the left and a composed strike by Athena, before Derby hit back with another good goal. Half time 1 : 2. Second half, panthers seemed to come to life a litlle bit, but were punished again - against the run of play - when Derby were awarded what I would personally describe as a 'soft' penalty after Joella (who was excellent at the back all game incidentally) was judged to have brought down a Derby player in the box; the resultant penalty was converted superbly by Derby's striker. So at 3 - 1 down, the game looked to be dead and buried with only a couple of minutes to go.
Then, Joella, who had now been pushed up into midfield, pressed forwad and came up with an absolute screamer from long range to give the Panthers hope; with their tails up and with only seconds remaining, Athena picked up the ball on the right and charged into the box before lashing home an equalizer into the bottom left with what turned out to be the last kick of the game.
3 : 3 - a comback not seen since Real Madrid against Man City on Wednesday.
We'll take a point today - This is why we all love football isn't it? Dave said:Decided to play with 6 mins to go . Great fight back but why do we do it to ourselves . Well done Athena for POM great goal to secure the draw. JD said:Well done today get out of jail card played never say die attitude from the team 😊👏. Well done Athena & goals today super show 😊👏⚽️
Matchday 23 - 30/04/2022 WBA U16s (a) 1- 2
Nagging doubt in our mind that we might not scale the heights and standards of Wednesday night. So it proved, as we were scrappy and disjointed. Credit though to WBA who played well, were the first to the 1st and 2nd balls and won the physical battles. All of which resulted in them deservedly taking the lead and holding onto it at half time.
Half-time: West Bromwich Albion 1 Wordsley Panthers 0
A few home truths at half time and subtle tactical adjustments worked the trick. We were now camped in their half and Milli capped a full on performance winning the ball in the air and tapping in for 1-1. The tide had turned now and the win was secured by Jo, driving in one of her trademark free kicks.
So, we move on having got out of jail today, WBA having hit the woodwork a few times!

Coventry United U15s (h - SWB Academy) 2 - 1 If it wasn't enough winning the Birmingham County cup on Saturday, then tonight we had to contend with a top of the league clash. Need we have worried....NO..because we turned in probably our best performance of the season! Well structured, pressing and lightning fast breaks. A brilliant first half performance, best chances, manic pressing and rewarded when Jo's long ball finished off by a sublime lob from Molly.
Half-time: Wordsely Panthers 1 Coventry United Juniors 0
Typically, Coventry came out the second half like a steam train and we lost territory for a while, ultimately giving away a penalty that drew them level.
Typical of Panthers though, we dug in deep and came out the other side and got back in their faces and grasped back control. The icing on the cake was when a Molly corner was flicked in by Milli at the near post. We then camped in their half and saw out a fantastic result.
An outstanding performance by the squad tonight, well done 👏🏼

Warwick Juniors (Birmingham COE) 2 - 1 {Birmingham FA County Cup Final} Always a great, entertaining and competitive match when these two good footballing teams meet - today was no different, but there was a little more at stake than just 3 points - The County FA Girls Cup! It was pretty much ding-dong from the word go; both teams going toe to toe, creating opportunities and giving their all. Amongst other chances, Warwick hit the post midway through the 1st half, whilst Wordsley had one virtually roll across the goal line unchallenged by either team. 0-0 @ HT didnt really reflect the quality of play OR enthusiasm from the girls (It was clear that all of them knew what was up for grabs today and were up for it). Seconds into the 2nd period Athena broke down the right wing and manged to smuggle the ball past a Warwick defender before launching a long cross that was (uncharacteristically) spilled by the goalkeeper and nestled home by Joella. 1:0. More to and fro followed before the ball broke free again down the right wing and Athena beat the defender and then the goalkeeper before centering for Ellie R to slot home. 2:0 on 59 mins. Wordsley must have thought that they had the job done, but no - Warwick seemed to galvanize and a real onslaught ensued, driven by their number 20 (POTM) who ran us ragged and forced corner after corner afer corner that Wordsley struggled to deal with and midway through hammered home a real wonder strike. Top quality. The pressure continued - efforts going marginally over the bar and just wide. Wordsley did continue to create as well and went close a couple of occasions that could have sealed the deal, but unfotunatley (for us) it went down to the wire - I am getting too old for this! A great old skool cup game for the neutral - but have to say there weren't many of those there today and Panthers parents were on tenterhooks at the end. 2 great teams and played in the right spirit; no animosity between fans (parents), mutual applause for good football (as it should be) and I must make a big shout out for Warwick defenders who came to Troope's aid when she was down injured mid way through the first period. Lovely to see - actually brought a tear to my eye (although i told everyone it was conjunctivitis); testament to the parents - would happily play Warwick every week if allowed. Well done everybody - both teams excellent in all departments and some top quality goalkeeping at both ends - great game 👏 Has anybody seen the trophy - I think i might have left it in the pub?

Coventry United (a) 2 - 0 Our girls put in a good shift today and were arguably just on top first half against a team that currently tops the league. Solid goalkeeping, good defensive performances across the back line and resilient in midfield; but chances going forward were few and far between - if we had managed to bury one of those it could have been a different story and upset the apple cart a little, but wasn't to be. Second half, Cov grew into the game and put away their opportunities ruthlessly (a bit like what me and my daughter witnessed a little bit later at Villa Park :( ⚽🖤💜). Cup Final next - Come on you Panthers!! Dave said: Shame about the result as we matched them for long periods of the game. Look forward to the rematch at home. Let’s all get ready now for the final against Warwick. Well done Chloe for POM calmest defender by far I’ve ever seen. JD said: Played a good organised team today great 1 st half , 2nd half we didn’t compete enough we go again 😊. Well done Chloe solid performance again 👏⚽️ Alan said: Went toe to toe with best team in league today and had better of 1st half. Slipped off it after conceded but still so much to be proud of. Well done Chloe, solid, adjust need to keep that focus and intensity for whole game. 👏👏👏⚽🖤💜 The Alan report: Match #11 Coventry United Juniors U15 Girls vs Wordsley Panthers U16s A real test for the Panthers today, a well drilled and organised team that are top of the table. And on a 9 a side size pitch. However, even by admission of their manager we edged the first half, being focused, tight defending and looking a real threat on the break against the wind. Had some chances, with Athena's pace a worry for Coventry. Half-time: Coventry United Juniors 0 Wordsley Panthers 0 So content at half time with where we were. The key was going to be maintaining that intensity and focus. Unfortunately, they scored the first goal, Joella having hit the bar just minutes earlier. We slipped off it a bit after that, and a sloppy 2nd goal followed to lead to a 2-0 defeat. But much to be proud of going toe to toe with the best team in our league. Full-time: Coventry United Juniors U15s 2 Wordsley Panthers 0 POTM Chloe - An all round solid performance! Well done, Chloe!

Sporting Khalsa (a) 3 - 0 Well done all, difficult day in heat, on astro, with one outfield sub. No faulting the effort and commitment after losing Liz early, other injuries and having to shuffle the pack so much. Well done Millie, big shout out for Chloe today, a d Freys who was really thrown in at deep end. But all played well a d what little football that was on show was Panthers football ⚽🖤💜. Dave said: Good effort today . Liked the fact we kept going and never gave up . Chances to make it 2-0 in first half would have completely changed the game . Well done Milli POM for playing in all those positions we ask of you We will bounce back from this stronger . Felt a bit guilty for Freya throwing her in a position she’s never played in before for her debut but you will be fine and will fit in well. Well done Milli player of the match playing in numerous positions today 🏆did us proud .
Matchday 18 - 19/03/2022
Burton Albion (a) 2 - 2 A game that really showcased some good goalkeeping, but precious little else. Panthers took the lead from a well taken Molly penalty after Lottie was felled in the box following good work between Athena and Ellie R down the right flank, before Burton smashed home an excellent equalizer from long range. Panthers were sloppy all over the pitch and to be honest didn't look interested in some cases. Players carrying injuries, strong wind, astro pitch, late kick off...these excuses don't wash at this age group or standard. Burton wanted it more, bossed play and scored a well deserved second goal half way through the second half to take the lead, although it was gifted to them through sloppy defending. As time seemed to be running out, an excellent long range effort from Aleesha was tipped onto the crossbar by some fine goalkeeping. Undeterred, moments later she broke again down the left (virtually on one leg) and smashed it towards goal...Athena nipped in to make sure; 2 - 2. Late on, another fine save - this time from Liz keeping out a viscious strike from Burton to keep the teams level. Both teams could have had prnalties in the dying minutes, but it ended all square. Fair play to Burton who were solid and resolute throughout, defending really well. Shout out to the Burton parent who stepped in to officiate after they were let down by their referee.

Matchday 17 - 05/03/2022
PS Olympic U16s [CWGFL CUP Quarter Final] (h) 3 - 0 This morning, we played in the Quarter Final of the CWGFL Cup. A tricky game in some respects, not least the stodgy state of the pitch. Consequently, a scrappy first half where we are not at our best but still camped in their half. A Milli goal off a rebound from the keeper settled things with a 1-0 half-time lead. It could have been 2, but a ball over the line was dismissed.
They came out blocks quick in the 2nd half, but we absorbed it and put the game beyond them with a cute turn and finish by Molly. Athena put the icing on the cake with a well worked 3rd, and our class shone through. Again, like in the first half another ball over the line was disallowed, it was hard for the ref to see at distance, but a clear goal! Still, a win in the bag and another semi- final ahead. Faith earned herself POTM but strong showings everywhere, Athena, Milli, Jo, Chloe, Aleesha, etc. BOOM 🖤💜⚽

Burton Albion U16s (h) 5 - 1 Sluggish start from the Panthers, but an injection of pace and smart move down the right wing by Joella and a great ball in for a deadly finish by Millie broke the deadlock. Then Burton seemed to liven up and were arguably the better side for periods of the first half, finding an equalizer halfway through. Our girls never really found their rhythm, but regained the lead when Athena's charge down the right flank and speculative cross nestled in the top left corner. Joella was a constant threat and added another quality strike before the break. Our girls looked a little out of sorts today and continued to huff and puff. More good work down the wing saw Athena feed Molly for goal 4 before Joella completed a stellar display with a cracking second. 5 - 1 Panthers. Dave said: Well done all . Not our best performance but got the job done . Need to step it up for next week . Well done Jo for POM solid as always.
JD said: Not our best but 3 points we move on to a big game next week quarter finals . Well done Joella excellent goals today 👏🏆.

Old Wulfrunians U16s (a) 0 - 1 {BIRMINGHAM COUNTY CUP SEMI FINAL} Game never in doubt for me - we were all over Wulfs from the word go and could have won this by half time if Athena had got her boots on the right feet (lol). Hit the crossbar twice and could have had a couple of penalties, but can't complain...bring on the Final Panthers! The Athena report: Another windy and cold Saturday morning saw us travel just up the road to Wolverhampton to play AFC Wulfrunians in the Semi Final of the Birmingham Girls County Cup.
We were up for the win today, hoping to get into the final of the Cup, if we did. The wind didn't help the flow of play, but Panthers held possession for most of the first half. Not much happened, other than a few decent shots, which the wind took wide or over the bar.
Half Time 0 - 0
The second half, both teams picked up, with Panthers controlling most of the game. Eventually, after a few chances, a sweet volley from Molly gave Panthers the lead.
Wordsley kept pushing and were unlucky not to get a second when the crossbar was tested twice in one passage of play, and the 3rd attempt was caught by their keeper. Despite a few good attacks from the opposition, Panthers held their nerve and claimed themselves a well deserved place in the final!

Coventry City U16s (h) 5 - 3
I didn't even get to see this one as I had a blowout on the Himley Road and had to be towed home by the AA. Sounds like we struggled first half but grew into the game.... The Rai report: First half we struggled to get going against the wind and just didn’t seem to be able to string much together Liz great vocal calling for the ball and vocal support to try and get us going Second half we woke up, started to play and take advantage of them having an outfield player in the goal 100% better from everyone and we were back in the game with some fabulous goals. Sweet Goal from Lew. Took me back a few years when he used to pop them in for fun when playing at Wyrley. Sounds like all is not well in the Cov Camp. Arguing and squabbling at the final whistle between parents players and managers. Meanwhile we just sat back and let the football do the talking
Dave said: The old saying A game of 2 halves. Coventry totally dominated the first half and penned us in our own half using the wind to their advantage. After a half time talk we finally decided to turn up and give them a game Some great finishing for our goals and a well deserved POM for Lew Semi final next week guys . Let’s play from the start next time JD said: 😊Never say die performance this morning, 1st half we didn’t turn up ,much better 2nd half some great goals . Potm Lew game changer good short simple passing breaking up the play ,spraying the ball around nicely great goal to get us going well done 👏 🏆😊. Alan said: Difficult first half for Panthers, which saw them playing into a strong wind. Coventry spent the majority of the first half on top; however, the Panthers defence held out resolutely aided by a confident display by Liz in goal. Until, near the end of the first half, when Panthers failed to clear their lines when we had the opportunity to, leading to Coventry scoring the only goal in the first half.
Half-time: Coventry City 1 - Wordsely Panthers 0
Second half, playing with the wind at their backs, Panthers took control of the game and played almost entirely in the Coventry City half, restricting them to the occasional counter attack. Panthers were dominating the midfield led by a dogged display by Lew, breaking up Coventry’s possession. Athena thought she had equalised only to be denied by a marginal offside flag, but eventually, the pressure tolled with Lew smashing a ball from Athena into the top corner. Totally against the run of play, Coventry scored again to take the lead however, Panthers heads never dropped and Joella equalised with a header from a corner, followed by a third by Milli driving in a rebound from a Joella free kick. A superbly worked corner routine saw Aleesha’s fourth from the edge of the box.
Coventry then proceeded to cause concern after they won a goal back to make it 4-3 with ten minutes to go. However, Panthers put the game to bed by Lottie winning the ball in midfield, setting up Athena, whose pace outstripped the defence before calmly slotting it under the keeper to make it 5-3.
A great 5-3 for the Panthers who carry on their winning streak as they make their way up the league, letting their football do the talking!
POTM Lew - An all action battling midfield performance, topped by a great finish for the first goal to get us back in the game.
First half was shocking, the wind being the main player, but second half the game picked up abit more. Coventry City scored the first goal but this sent the panther into a fighting mood where they began to push for some goals, and they got them, with a great header from Lew after Athena whipped the ball in. Joella then allowed us to take the lead with a great freekick. Coventry City then equalise but just a minute later Ellie sealed the 2-3 win with a calm strike. Derby County U16s (h) 2 - 1 Always a very competetive game between these 2 very skillful and hard working sides, but always played in a good spirit - this one didn't disappoint. A penalty each (both contentious IMHO) - but both converted well by the strikers - then a tense affair until the very end, before some good football and a good strike to finish deservedly gave Panthers the points on the balance of play. Panthers started really well and you genuinely wouldn't know who was second in the league. A barrage of shots and chances which their goalkeeper responded to brilliantly. We went into half time at 0-0. The trend and story continued, and then completely against the run of play they went 1 up through a penalty. A couple of glorious saves by their keeper, from shots by Lottie and Joella was frustrating. But a Molly penalty equalised and Panthers pushed to the very last. A quick Molly throw and calm Athena finish (awesome strike), sealed a well deserved victory.

West Bromwich Albion LFC (h) 5 - 1
I think some of our girls had a point to prove today against monday night allies - put in a decent shift first half, but nodded off a little half way through the second period. A good footballing game for the purist without much incident - but a win never in doubt - we missed Molly through Covid-19 and could have been a bigger score. Panthers off bottom now - lets try and move up this league girls! We called for a quick, high tempo start today and we got it. Milli justified starting up top, with another smart header. The domination and the goals flowed from there, Joella driving her free kick in the bottom corner and Athena nipping in ahead of the keeper, going into HT 3-0 up. We then we got a little lazy and sloppy as WBA came out brighter, but an Athena run and a striker's goal from Lottie, stretched the lead. Was a shame to lose the goal but POTM, Aleesha put things to bed with a cracking 5th. Shame at the end when the WBA girl was clearly hurt, from a fair challenge, we hope she has a speedy recovery. Onwards and further upwards for the Panthers. POTM Aleesha

Redditch United (a) 1 - 4 [Birmingham FA Girls County Cup - Quarter Final]
Redditch were a tough battling team and difficult to breakdown - they definitely made the most of home advantage on their 4G pitch, but once Panthers settled, we found our rythym and our quality showed in the end. Cup Quarter Final on a wet afternoon at Trico Arena. Per usual, a slow start for Panthers, as we adapted to quite a robust, physical Redditch team. But a smart finish from Athena to Molly's crossfield pass set us rolling. We had a ridiculous amount of corners, showing our dominance of possession and territory, that finally resulted in a second from a Joella header. We were comfortable from thereon in and would have been more comfortable, but for their goalie. A sweet Millie header and another smart finish from Athena sealed it. Sloppiness from us gave them their only shot on target and a goal. But a solid win and Semifinals here we come! POTM: Ellie Goal Scorers: Athena ⚽️⚽️ Joella ⚽️ Milli ⚽️ Dave said: Solid display against a strong physical team . Dominated play. Well done team super show. Convincing display to take us through to the next round; good work Panthers. A cup match, of sorts, but you can only deal with what's in front of you. Three hat trick heroes will tell you this was a comfortable 15-0 victory. The heroes were Molly, Athena and Milli, plus a brace and muddy face for Lottie. Some cracking goals from Aleesha, a pile driver, and lob from Molly, and headers from pin perfect crosses from Athena. In truth a ruthless performance from a Premier League team, thoroughly professional on a boggy pitch. Toton United (h) 2 - 2
Time for the cliches: a game of 2 halves, Panthers like chalk and cheese, etc. For whatever reasons, a few players out of sorts, standing off the game, lack of commitment and silly errors, the first half was not good. 2-0 down reflected that. The half time chat seemed to work, about the need to close down, increase the tempo, tracking back and the fact we hadn't even started yet. If we got the next goal it was an entirely different game. So it proved we were on front foot from the get go and were camped in their half. Molly's goal set us off and we dominated, equalising from a Joella header from Milli's cross. Only one team going to win then, and Athena's rocket off the crossbar so nearly did it! Tremendous comeback against a good Toton team.

Dave said: Tough game today but we came through . Great 2nd half . Great all round . Well done Lew well deserved POM . Bring on the next ones 💪💪💪 JD said: Amazing. Quality showed on the pitch 2nd half very good football played today some of the passing was the next level great win. POM Lew outstanding in attack and defend , excellent break up of the play ,unlucky not to be on the score sheet 🏆😊👏. JC said : Well done team, a really solid performance today, once we got going we bossed it! 👏 Great game Lew, quality all over the pitch today, well done👍 Alan said : Birmingham County Cup game vs Kingshurst started off slowly for us today. The opposition tried to knock us, literally in some cases, out of our stride. We grew into game and towards the end of first half, we were camped at their end, but a goal from a free kick sent us into half time 1 nil down. We then got into our stride and played our football and Molly's equaliser soon followed. The midfield began to dominate, threading Athena in to knock the ball towards goal and Molly made sure. One way traffic now, rounded off by Milli penalty after Athena was upended. Comfortable victory in the end and strong performances all over the team and player of match performance from Lew. Matchday 5 - 30/10/2021
Derby County U16's (a) 1 - 1 Another good game...Panthers are loving being back in the Prem and enjoying these tough encounters. Two well matched teams and that was probably reflected in the final scoreline; again it could have gone either way.
Panthers took the lead through the industrious Molly who worked her socks off throughout and took her chance beautifully following a terrific through ball by Ellie R. We continued to press for the firsts 45 but were unable to increase our lead. Half time 1-0.
Derby got back into the game early in the second period with a sensational strike from long range that wouldn't be out of place on MOTD 'Goal of the Month' - nothing any keeper could have done about that.
Both sides continued to press and create chances, but no further goals came and it ended 1-1, which on reflection was probably a fair result. A point on the board finally - COYP. Lets do the business in the cup next week!
Well done to our POTM Troope who was rock solid and dealt with everything down the Derby left flank.
Dave said: Good result panthers. This team has the character personality and skill to match anyone in this league. Proud of you. JD said: 👏👏👏Excellent Performance all round solid 1st Half performance tired a-bit 2nd half we take the point .Everyone was fantastic. Troope another solid performance excellent tackling strong on the ball some nice pass and movement on the wing 🏆 👏⚽️😊. Alan said : Well done all great display, dominated 1st half and just needed that 2nd goal. Hung in there though when we tired a bit at end. Good performances all over the field but well done Troope who looks like she's always played in that role.👍 Some fantastic moves 1st half and dream of pass Ellie for the goal, expertly finished. JC said : Great game all, every player played there part and worked so hard… some great football played as well… could well have won that… well done Troope a very confident display 👏 let’s carry on the cup run next week 👍
Matchday 4 - 23/10/2021
Sporting Khalsa (h) 3 - 4
Another great game of football; so happy to be back in the Prem playing these top sides... To and fro from start to finish, Panthers came from behind on 3 occasions and with some great goals (Lottie's equaliser for 1:1 was sensational; Athena's for 2:2 was definitely not a cross 🤣; and Joella's free kick proved the great depth to her game and that the virtual carbon copy she did 2 weeks ago was no fluke....amazing!
2 really well matched teams and super to watch.
I would argue we played the better football on the day, but need to improve on our game slightly and getting the results we know we can achieve, if we are to make an impact on this league.
Well done to Ellie R for POTM 👍🏻

Well done Ellie Riley.... in 2 positions. Matchday 3 - 16/10/2021
Derby County (a) 7 - 5
Not the start we were hoping for on our return to the Prem, but a great game for the neutrals; I counted 12 really good quality goals in a thoroughly entertaining end to end game of football. Panthers twice threw away a 2 goal lead and, whilst we played some good stuff on the front foot, struggled to match Derby's comittment and passion for long spells which allowed them back into the game, ultimately taking the 3 points with a hard fought victory sealed with a couple of late goals. Although disappointing for us, got to say a big well done Derby - look forward to welcoming you to our place later in the season. Dave said: Good effort today but should never have lost that game . We regroup and go again next week . Well done Athena some great goals . Defeat makes us stronger. JD said: Disappointing performance all round but we move on go again next week big league more big matches to come this season. Well done Athena never stopped running & turning them inside out all game 😊👏. Alan said : Chins up, smile on faces, bad day at the office, we had chances to score more, and definitely to concede less. We move on and realise and adapt to level were now at. JC said : We will all take stock and go again…. You don’t always get what you deserve in footy, and even with stepping up we didn’t deserve that today! Heads up all, we can win next Sat at home 👍⚽️
Matchday 2 - 09/10/2021
Coventry City (h) 3 - 2 [BIRMINGHAM FA COUNTY CUP]
A really open, entertaining and combative encounter that had everything.....excitement; passion; goals; near misses; calamity; crunching tackles; and pressing play from both sides from minute 1 until the very end.
End to end stuff - really good old school cup football!
In all honesty, Coventry maybe shaded it first half and took the lead early in the second half before doubling shortly afterwards; but it was so open it could have gone either way and the way Panthers fought back to claim victory was nothing short of miraculous; a wonderful free kick from Joella, then Panthers hit the woodwork twice before Athena was fouled by 3 different players on her way down the right flank into the box and eventually upended to win us a penalty which Molly slotted cooly home to draw us level. Continued pressure was rewarded with a winner from Lottie after Millie's shot was parried by the keeper with only a couple of miutes to go - Lottie our deserved GOTM.
...no idea why either of these teams were relegated to Div 1 last season.
Well done to the ref who held his nerve and refused to be influenced by the spectators. A couple of the Cov girls took knocks and it got a bit heated, but there was no malice in the tackles, just really passionate girls giving their all for the team. Hope the girls shake off the injuries in time for when we meet in league, because it was a real belter of a game. Dave said: All I will say is character! Superb come back. Well done everyone. Great teams show great character. JD said: Super performance from everyone today well done. Lottie outstanding performance from minute 1 until full time great winner wow 🤩 ⚽️👍 Happy Birthday Alan enjoy your day hope this is the start 🎂 Alan said : Fantastic comeback today guys, unbelievable performance, gutsy, physical, great goals- too much excitement by far for an 'ol guy ⚽💜🖤⚽👉 JC said : Totally agree Alan, well done all… and a massive well done to Lottie for POM, well deserved…. Onto the next one 👍 and Happy Birthday to the ‘ol guy 🎉🍻
Matchday 1 - 11/09/2021
Boldmere Falcons (h) 11 - 0
After a bit of a slow start, our girls grew into the game and started to move the ball around like we know they can; strong in the middle of the park and good movement off the ball, it wasn't long before we broke the deadlock and then went from strength to strength to complete a commanding victory on the opening day of the season. Shout out for Boldmere keeper who was assured throughout and made some great saves.
POTM Molly for a marvellous double hat-trick
Dave said: Well done today tramps sorry I meant panthers . Great second half . Well done Molly POM with your 6 goals . And well done to Lottie . Did what we asked of her and changed the game. JD said: Awesome today well done everyone great team performance. POTM Molly great goals 😊👏🐾⚽️ JC said : Well done all, really good performance and kept going until the end! 👍 Rest up those aches and knocks you guys carrying them, and we look forward to a big one next Saturday…. See you Tuesday evening…
