Matchday 14 - 04/03/2023 Derby County U18's [H] {OPEN CUP SF} - 0-0 [Derby win 5-4 on penalties]
Well what a rollercoaster of a cup semi-final across 120 minutes. Above all a fantastic performance from 1 to 12. Going toe to toe with a good team and the stamina to do it across that time.
Chances on both sides, including a Kate volley and other good chances. But best of all was the perfectly good goal that never was. An Athena cross and Milli header, not offside and not out of play. But the referee struggled to cope on the tight decisions.
Half-Time: Wordsley Panthers 0 Derby County 0
So no goals and the lottery of penalties which we lost. But great credit to our Panthers for a brave performance and we can certainly hold our heads up high!
Wishing Faith a speedy recovery after breaking her wrist during the game yesterday 💜🤕 ❤️🩹
POTM - Well done to Lottie an absolute engine today in midfield, strong tackles and our ball winner!

JC said: Quality Lottie really good game… well done all, great battle, attitude and team work today, loved it! Really unfortunate to go out as we did! 👏🏼 Very proud of each one of you… 😊 hope your injury isn’t as bad as we thought Faith 🙏🏼
Alan said: Fantastic performance today, across the pitch. Toe to toe with a good team over 120 minutes 💪 , incredible. And a perfectly good goal disallowed.
Let's take the energy from today and finish season with a bang.
The Rai report: Well played all Think you all put a shift in today. Great team performance which was pleasing to see
big up to all those girls who stood up to take the penalties 👏🏼 Also to Lew in the sticks 👏🏼
Crap way to go out on pens but totally salute those girls for stepping up 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Veo will be interesting… if we ever get it 🙄 I spoke to the ref and he said he didn’t know what the Lino gave it for <<I thought offside>> which milli defo wasn’t. Ref said he couldn’t see the incident and had to go with the Lino as he was level with play.
Anyway let’s hold our heads up high and go and get a decent place in the league and make this season a good un #upthepanthers
An early goal from Kodie put us into the lead, hitting it well from Athena’s cross.
Burton then punished us hard and were putting balls straight through the Wordsley defence. They capitalised with two goals that Wordsley should have dealt with.
Half-time Wordsley Panthers 1 Burton Albion 2
Second half Wordsley tried to get into the game. Had a few half decent chances.
Great save from Lew and quick distribution to Athena in our own half, took on 4 players and jumped over an awful two footed tackle on the way <<Defender lucky to be on the pitch after sliding in >> shot to the right of the keeper to put Wordsley back level at 2-2
Within minutes though, Wordsley conceded a Free kick. Shot at the keeper but trickled out to the Burton player to follow up and tap over the line.
A few chances went begging with shots from Athena, Molly and Lottie going wide.
Today we were poor all over the pitch and from set plays.
Burton picked up a selection of yellow cards that could of easily been red.
POTM Awarded to Lottie ~ For her tenacity and grit throughout the game.

Matchday 12 - 18/02/2023 Derby County U18 s [A] - 2-1
Derby County U18s vs Wordsley Panthers U18s
Derby started strong and were rewarded with two early goals.
Faith, Lew, Siân and Molly were tested by the Derby front line, who had the wind behind them down the hill. Derby had depth in thier squad who all made an impact on the game when on the pitch.
Half-time: Derby County 2 Wordsley Panthers 0
The second half Wordsley started ‘playing’ and both sides had chances. They had more of the ball and both teams were playing some great attacking football.
Another Wordsley attack and Jess was brought down outside the box, captain Siân stood up and blasted the free kick past the keeper to put Wordsley back in the game
Liz made a string of outstanding saves and the ‘stand in’ Derby keeper was being tested at last. Two clear chances went begging for the Panthers which could have earned them the draw.
It wasn’t to be and Derby took all 3 points. Probably the strongest team we have come across this season.
Welcome aboard to Kate who made her debut for Wordsley today, a great addition to the team.
POTM Awarded to Sián ~ Great performance in defence and an excellent free kick to score.
Full-time: Derby County U18s 2 Wordsley Panthers 1
Pantheres dealt with first half in a professional manner, apart from the sloppy goal conceded.
Half-Time: Boldmere Falcons 1 Wordsley Panthers 3
3 -1 half time lead didn't really reflect the extent of the dominance. Milli, Jess and Lottie ran the midfield, with Kodie POTM as focal point up front and Athena Mk 2 running them ragged.
Goalscorers were POTM Kodie 3, a fit again Molly 2, Milli, Bella pearler and Athena.
Back to our best and perfect preparation for our league game against Stourbridge next week.
POTM - Well done to Kodie a great hat-trick, 3rd goal was quality 👌🏼
DV said: Well done today . Everyone stepped up as we asked . Looked solid and dominated the whole game . Well done Kodie for POM but the good thing was 4 or 5 players were also in contention.
JD said: Semi Finals here we come well done all we can do this 🏆👍🏼. Kodie great hatrick 3rd goal quality well done 👏🏻 .
Alan said: Brilliant professional job today, some great stuff and good goals. Great performances all over the pitch 🖤💜⚽. Bring on Stourbridge
JC said: Great performance all.. and well done Kodie great to see you amongst the goals again 😊 onwards and upwards 👍🏼
The Rai report: Well done all We played some great football at times today. Totally bossed it.
They didn’t really turn up but it was good for us to have a run out and great to have some players back in form after injuries.
A selection of great goals scored and a selection of goals missed 🙈 on a day like today the missed chances were irrelevant.
Well done Kodie on your hat trick. We all knew it was your goal before you. Great back header flicked over the keeper.
An absolute Belter from Bella today (sorry Karl I pinched your pun).
Overall a great team performance.
Matchday 10 - 7/01/2023 TGK (a) 0- 1
Without a New Year training session and post-xmas we had concerns about the game against TGK. Reinforced in warm up when some of the players were suffering a little.
However, on a stodgy pitch Wordsley Panthers put on quite the performance. Gritty, full commitment across the whole team, that saw us dominate a first half with few chances.
Half-time: TGK 0 Wordsley Panthers 0
Lew was forced to drop in to centre back and with Molly, Sian and Chloe, backed up by Liz, POTM Lew ensured we were solid as a rock with a clean sheet.
Wordsley had the best of the chances, many resulting from Athena runs and she was eventually rewarded when tapping in a cross drilled in from Joella. Great performance and much deserved 3 points.
POTM Awarded to Lew ~ Our No1 became a very good centre back today excellent performance and concentration throughout the the game .
Full-time: TGK U18s 0 Wordsley Panthers 1
Goal Scorers Athena ⚽️
DV said: Well done today guys . 5weeks off and we come through with a 1 -0 win . Back four superb today . Limited them to shots from free kicks . POM Lew . Excellent centre half performance.
JD said: Great win today another 3 points . Potm Lew Great performance at the back 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻⚽️.
Alan said: Well done all, sterling effort without a training session. Great input all over the field, Kodie up, to battling in midfield and so solid back 4 and keeper. Well done Lew, opposition deserved nothing. 🖤🤍💜⚽
JC said: Top job Lew, and great attitude to play there…. Respect 👊🏼
The Rai report: Well done all 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 To say we haven’t had much footy and the pitch was very heavy we had a decent game We outplayed them in the first half and sharkys flag had more activity than the TGK attackers!
Goal line technology im sure would have had the curve of the ball, from Athena’s shot, well over the line … but hey ho
Second half TGK came out with a better side (having a 34 man squad must be a pain on match days) but I felt they always 12 players on the pitch 🤷♀️🤷♀️the ref a die hard TGK’er 🤪 he just couldn’t hide it VAR would have overturned the only few decisions he had to make… We should have docked his pay
Anyway I thought it had 0-0 all over it as thier keeper was decent (she’s the Welsh under 19 keeper) and Liz was picking anything up at our end (Liz for England 🏴) but Sophia was adamant she could feel a goal coming.
A long clearance from lottie in defence played in Jo who put a Superb cross to athena who took a touch and then helped it over the line from her pelvis 🙈
TGK had threatened more in the second half. Thier top scorer wasn’t there today… is she the one that may have made any difference 🤷♀️
Big up to The back 4… Molly and Lew in that 4… 😝 Chloe you were busy down your side but dealt with it all so calmly
Thought the vocal support from Liz today was great. She didn’t shut up 🤩
A tremendous cup match close and played in a great spirit.
Panthers went 1-0 down against the run of play, having started well with a good tempo and we had a few good chances.
There was a good spirit and unity about the team today, supportive of each other and all putting in a shift.
Half-time: Warwick Juniors 1 Wordsley Panthers 0
Second half saw us kick into gear with an equaliser from Lottie with a sweetly hit top corner goal, then going ahead with a goal from our POTM Milli.
An equaliser from Warwick followed, as should have another, but thankfully no VAR at this secondary school.
The chances kept on coming for Panthers, but their keeper was outstanding and saving everything, but a belter from Bella found the back of the net that she had no chance of saving!
So round 3 beckons, although on clear cut chances the score should have been emphatic. 💜🖤🤍⚽👉
POTM - Well done to Milli, a great performance and back to her normal self today, winning every tackle and header in the middle of the pitch .
Matchday 8 - 26/11/2022 Coventry United U18s (a) 0 - 3 Half an hour gone and we had seen plenty possession but no end product.
On 33 mins Athena passed to Joella who ran on, beat the defender and took a shot. The keeper parried it and Joella followed up to make it 0-1. It was a long time coming, the deadlock was broken hurrah!
Short corner from Molly, a one/two with Kodie, Molly then beat a defender on the edge of the box and her shot rattled the bar.
Half Time we look comfortable but disappointing we haven’t got the ball in the net more.
Half-time: Coventry United 0 Wordsley Panthers 1
Panthers take a few minutes to get back in charge. Joella wins a strong header and the ball drops to Kodie to put Athena through, shot just wide.
A few more opportunities for Panthers and a counter attack from Cov, Chloe cleared up in defence to Lottie who puts Athena through to strike it home 0-2.
Athena’s high cross into box was met by lottie, who headed it home. Should be 0-3 … Linesman flagged the whole of the ball had gone out of play and come back in, so the ref had no choice but to disallow the goal. No VAR in Cov to reverse the decision.
Milli picked up a loose ball, took on a defender and the keeper, at full stretch, pushed it round the post.
Physical battle but all the chances falling to Panthers.
Joella wins the ball in defence. Passes to Athena who runs on and sees her shot just passed the post.
Kareena came off worse after a hard 50/50 challenge. The game was stopped for medical attention. Fingers crossed she makes a speedy recovery. The dropped ball in defence taken by Lottie, collected by Athena on the half way line. And a great run and finish to make it 0-3
Strong defensive play from Panthers the whole match didn’t allow Cov to have many chances on goal. Lew and Liz commanded the area well.
POTM - Well done to Molly who picked up POTM for a great game at her makeshift Right Back position and for trying to get the ball on the floor, playing football, on what was at times a scrappy game on a heavy pitch
Plenty tackles and aggression today from all over the pitch. Something that had been missing the last few weeks.
Full-time: Coventry United U18s 0 Wordsley Panthers 3
Goal Scorers Joella ⚽️ Athena ⚽️ ⚽️
Matchday 7 - 19/11/2022 Sporting Khalsa U18s (a) 0 - 5 A strange game, in that we started brightly and left off where we finished in the recent 2-2 draw with Sporting Khalsa. So going toe to toe with them, closing down space and stopping them playing for a good while.
It was unfortunate a soft foul brought a free kick that they took full advantage of. Still in the game though but the second, when we got out muscled was the one that did for us.
Half-time: Sporting Khalsa 2 Wordsley Panthers 0
2-0 down at half time and from that point the energy, passion and cohesion ebbed away from us. A chaste 5-0 defeat followed and a rethink required to reenergise our season.
Well, possibly as disappointed as we've been as coaches for a long, long time during the first half. 3-0 down at half time, not closing down, barely putting a pass together and outplayed by Stourbridge.
Half-time: Stourbridge 3 Wordsley Panthers 0
Full and frank feedback at half time about need for desire, teamwork and showing some pride in the game.
A 2-2 second half, after a Bella header from a great Milli cross, delivered on that front and a penalty from Molly.
Well done Molly POTM and shout outs to Siân and Chloe.
One to put down to experience and work to be done on Tuesday on desire and working as a coherent
POTM Molly ~ For never giving up and scoring a penalty! Well done Molly 👏🏼
An odd game for us really, where we struggled to leave a mark on the game against a very good Khalsa team.
What we will always do though, is compete and that brought reward when Joella's 20 yard drive bounced off the crossbar and Kodie guided the bouncing ball home.
Lost our way a little then as they put some nice passes together and we struggled to get about them. A free header from a corner and blistering pace from their left winger saw us go 2-1 down.
Half-time: Wordsley Panthers 1 Sporting Khalsa 2
It was difficult to see a way back, we juggled the pack a lot, 3 separate right backs, shifting the midfield and strikers around. Shout outs to Kareena, Molly, Lottie, Athena, Milli and Kodie for their flexibility, and the latter for her POTM.
The perseverance paid off, another 20 yard free kick from left wing, another crossbar hit and another rebound scrambled in by Lottie. 2-2 final score and a welcome point against a good team.
POTM Kodie ~ Held the ball up as we asked, got the runners into play and a goal too! Well done Kodie 👏🏼
DV said: Good battle today . Fair result . Not many chances but desire and passion got you the result . Well done Kodie for POM. Held that ball up as we asked and got the runners into play and got your goal . 💪💪💪 Panthers Rule
JC said: Well battled and played all, hard game against a good team, with a new pitch to navigate as well… 👏🏼 Well done Kodie, great performance and not feeling 100% either 👏🏼
Alan said: Well Well done all today, we struggled to leave a stamp on the game, but hung in there physically, got that 2nd equaliser and they were panicking aloof a sudden. So a good point against a good team. Well done Kodie, a focal point for us all game.
Matchday 4 - 29/10/2022 Leafield Athletic Ladies U18s (h) 10 - 2 First half we were good, but credit to Leafield who were physically robust and kept after us. Goals from Kodie and Bella rightly kept us ahead, just.
Second half saw the Panthers roll into action, playing our football and losing the ball less in transition. The goals then started to flood in, second goals for Kodie and Bella, a hat trick from Molly, an absolute screamer for Chloe, left foot finish from Millie, and the Athena after burners put on for a smart finish.
A statement result to show here we are, with a well balanced squad to go to battle with, reflected in Joella and Kareena's ability to drop into the back
POTM Bella ~ Solid performance and scored her first goals for Panthers (2) with many more to come! Well deserved POTM
DV said: Let’s keep it going panthers . Super 2nd half display . When you play as a team there’s no one better . Keep it going .well done Bella super display . Well done Molly for your hatrick and assists . Goal of the season Chloe . We are Panthers . Bring on Khalsa !!! JD said: Agree totally Alan 👍🏼 Potm Bella well deserved first goals of many for the team 🏆. Big shout out to Molly hat trick and assists . Alan said: 100% 👏🏼 Brilliant second half. Goals galore, couple of pearlers, spread across the team, and solid at the back. Harsh on them a little, given way they stuck at it. Real statement though, well done Bella, but all of you as you look like a team out there now. 💜🖤👉⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽ JC said: 100% 👏🏼 Well done Bella brilliant today… Come on you Panthers 😊
DV said: Well battled today guys. I cannot knock the effort and passion you put into todays game against a very good Derby side. Loved the effort. Well done Lew. You’re handling today was exceptional.
JD said: Super performance from everyone today well proud of everyone’s effort, Great performance Lew top Goalkeeping today 🏆👏🏻😊⚽️
Alan said: Well done today, each and every one of you, you put in graft and a full shift against a good team. Top of the table 🤔 you went toe to toe with them until the second goal. Well done Lew and to that solid back four, in all its forms Lottie. Today a clear indication we belong in this league.
Alan's Report: So Top of the table Derby County came to Wordsley School today, undefeated, no goals conceded, squad drawn from the largest pool you can imagine....and little old Wordsley Panthers went toe to toe with them for 70 minutes. Graft and a full on shift from the whole squad kept it 0-0 at half time and rightly so. Half-time: Wordsley Panthers 0 Derby County 0 Lew and the back 4, including when Lottie slotted, were outstanding keeping them at bay. And pressure and physicality put on them all over the pitch. They didn't like it! A penalty followed by a sloppy 2nd goal put pay to the game. But a very good team knew they'd been in a game with a determined team. POTM Lew - Some top goalkeeping today and your handling of the ball was excellent and kept us in the game, well done! Full-time: Wordsley Panthers 0 Derby County 2
JD said: ⚽️Great performance all round never gave up all game , great 3 points. 3 Super debuts from the new girls 👏🏻. Potm Athena 3 Goals scored - only 90% fit on the day, well done 🏆👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻⚽️.
Alan said: Brilliant stuff girls, particularly reacting to Derby getting level and pushing through it. Brilliant debuts from Alliya, Bella and Jess, including some playng out of position. Well done Athena and shout outs for Lottie and Lew and all the back 4. 👉⚽💜🖤🤍
Alan's Report: We welcomed Derby County U17s to our new home at Wordsley School today, hoping to throw off last week’s defeat. Fuller squad today with our 3 new additions (Bella, Alliyah, Jess), which we needed with a few niggles and things knocking about.
Started really well and immediately much more at it than last week, in a closely contested game. Not a lot in it early on, and all a bit tight on what is a smaller pitch. Took something special to break the deadlock and Lottie did it with a super curled ball with the outside of her foot, setting Athena through and expertly finished.
Momentum with us and most of the play in Derby’s half and a second goal followed, Athena again onto a through ball and scrambled home. 2-0 at half time and looking comfortable.
Half-time: Wordsley Panthers 2 Derby County 0
Tactical change by Derby, flooding the midfield with 5 players and lost our way a little bit by not closing down the ball quickly, allowing them to play and slide through balls through. Two quick goals followed and suddenly, against the flow of the game, we were level and momentum was the other way.
We reacted to their change by going stronger in midfield and the players getting tighter and pressing the ball quicker and the change reaped a quick reward as Lottie finished expertly after Athena had been put through, and the ball dropped perfectly for her. Things were back on track now, we had sorted it so people were not playing out of position, and Panthers were now in the ascendancy.
Kodie made it 4-2 and Athena completed her hat trick to leave the final score 5-2.
Great performance from across the team. Lew and back four were commanding, with Alliyah playing left back and Molly at right back and Chloe coping with illness, and rock solid from Sian and Faith. All three debutants put in a shift and we wrestled back control of the midfield, with some serious pressing of the ball by Jo, Lottie, Jess and Milli.
Three points and off we go!
POTM Athena - 3 good goals scored at 90% fully fit on the day, well done!
Full-time: Wordsley Panthers 5 Derby County 2
Goal Scorers: Athena ⚽️ ⚽️ ⚽️ Lottie ⚽️ Kodie ⚽️
The Rai Report: Todays performance against a good Derby side made up for last weeks disappointment. It was pretty even for the first 10 mins of the game until Kodie played in Athena down the wing, who ran onto it and slotted it home. The new signings were all on the pitch making an individual impact to the whole team. Lottie then split the defence with a ball to Athena, who tidily placed it beyond the Derby keeper to put us 2 nil up. panthers went in 2 up at HT but Derby looked a real threat on the break. After half time Derby bounced back into the game with two goals in two mins, school’girl’ errors from Wordsley not clearing our lines… a lesson not learnt from last week. Thankfully two mins later Lottie loitered outside the box and picked up a loose ball, smashed it into top corner to give the keeper no chance. Wordsley back in front but Derby were not lying down. Mollys superb Corner for Wordsley not cleared by Derby dropped for Koadie to take advantage and put in the net to make it 4. Wordsley were back on top but Derby kept knocking at the door. Millie’s unfortunate elbow in the face didn’t stop her from winning multiple headers. An array of Wordsley chances in the next few mins saw Athena hit the cross bar, Lottie hit the post, Lottie flashing a header just over, Then Molly (switching back up front from defence) had a one on one with the Derby keeper. Our fortune changed and Jess tapped the ball through to Athena who put the game well out of sight for Derby. A hat trick for Athena who wasn’t 100% fit, after picking up an injury a few weeks back. Main difference today was we had depth in the squad with three strong debutants. We had players with knocks who were able to take time out and it not affect the balance of the game. Versatile players who can switch with ease. Alliyah looked at home in our back four, comfortably dealing with anything that came her way. Jess chased everything down in midfield. Winning the ball well and distributing it out with confidence. Bella looked strong, holding the ball up well and was a constant threat to the Derby defence throughout the game. Shout out to Lew in goal and Lottie who were close contenders for POTM today. Athena’s sterling performance and goals gave her the silverware to take home. Great to see Liz back, watching from the bench today, won’t be long before she’s back fit. Also good to see Lye Town ladies supporting from the sidelines.
Matchday 1 - 17/09/2022 Coventry City (a) 1 - 3
Start of new season, eventually, and plenty of hope. An odd first half, where we started slowly until we got in our stride when making a tactical adjustment, with POTM Molly slotting seamlessly into wing back role.
Rewarded when on debut Kodie slotted the ball away carefully and we took the lead into half time.
Half-time: Coventry City 0 Wordsley Panthers 1
Second half was strange and a little scrappy from our perspective. Equaliser for them was messy and then a gilt edged chance for us to take the lead was followed by a pitch length break and a tap in for Coventry to take the lead.
Heads dropped a little after that and a warm day, only 12 players and tiredness across the full 90 minutes kicked in. We put down to experience with recognition of what we need to work on.
POTM Molly - for a good performance playing out of position at right back and not letting one player get past her.
Full-time: Coventry City 3 Wordsley Panthers 1
Goal Scorers: Koadie ⚽️
Dave said: Fitness fitness fitness . Big pitch . Lack of matches showed today . When we got the ball down and played we looked good . Making the right decisions and lack of match fitness cost us today .
Alan said: Yes scrappy game that could have gone either way. Did well to take lead, well done Koadie on debut, and then couple of incidents went the wrong way and lack of fitness did kick in.
We move on 👉
The Rai Report: I thought it was a decent first half from us. Thought we were starting to get on top and command the game before and after the goal Second half we came out and did well for the first few mins. We didn’t clear the ball at numerous opportunities in the area then they scored. Thought they were going to score again from their corners as they were taken well and the big blonde ,thankfully, was off target every time we gave her a free header Think we had 2 or 3 clear cut chances to put the ball in the net, did all that hard work and the pretty stuff but no end result, they on the break scored a second Again we had plenty of the ball and again on the break we were caught. Thankfully the ref didn’t play any injury time as it could have been more Cov goals Should have been one we should have won The game was there for the taking but think based on their second half Cov deserved the win.
